CINTA DAN NILAI RELIGIUS DALAM KITAB ṬŪQ AL ḤAMĀMAH FĪ AL ILFAH WA AL ULLĀF IBN ḤAZM : KAJIAN PSIKOLOGI SASTRA
Abstract
This study examines the representation of love and religious values in Ṭūq al-Ḥamāmah fī al-Ilfah wa al-Ullāf by Ibn Ḥazm al-Andalusī through a literary psychology approach. Love constitutes the central theme of the work, while religiosity is articulated through a theological and ethical framework that directs human emotional experience toward Allah. Previous studies have largely focused on love metaphors, philological aspects, or the concepts of love proposed by other figures such as Ibn Qayyim and Jalāluddīn al-Rūmī. Consequently, research that specifically connects Ibn Ḥazm’s discourse on love with religious values from a literary psychology perspective remains limited. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method based on library research, analyzing prose and poetic excerpts that express love and religiosity. The findings indicate that, first, love in Ibn Ḥazm’s perspective is understood as an innate disposition of the soul that connects human beings and can only be comprehended through deep emotional insight. Second, religious values are reflected in the affirmation of tawḥīd, the restraint of desire, the avoidance of sinful behavior, and the orientation of love toward divine pleasure. Thus, Ṭūq al-Ḥamāmah is not merely a romantic literary text, but also a work of religious ethics that remains relevant for fostering the spiritual and moral sensitivity of contemporary Muslim readers.
